Chief Bambatha Primary is named for the chief of a Zulu clan who in 1906 launched a rebellion against the payment of taxes to the British in the colony of Natal.

Some 600 kilometers from the original site of the uprising, and almost one hundred and twenty years’ later, Chief Bambatha Primary School in Evaton, Gauteng, caters for a staggering 1666 learners.

In 2018 it was selected to receive an Imperial library with the gift of becoming a more literate school community. Although it has such a large roll, the school was still effectively managed with healthy signs of learning and teaching evident at all times.
