The library at Libra Primary School is the 7th library proudly established by Hyundai and the fortieth overall in Imperial’s portfolio of resource centres.
The school caters for learners from the nearby informal settlement of Thembelihle and the equally needy Lenasia communities of extensions 8 and13.
The school which established some 40 years ago had an existing library with a few dog-eared, if well-thumbed books, received from donations over the years – with bookshelves that also showed their age. While the school made every attempt to run their own library, it realised its need for a partner serious enough to help with such a huge task.
When the directors of Hyundai gave the okay, our teams did a total makeover: the room was completely stripped of old books and shelving, ceilings and floors.
New shelves, chairs, tables and cupboards were installed. The addition of 9000 new books and teaching aids were processed making the new library the perfect place to promote the love for reading and learning. The principal emphasized this point in his handover speech on 18 September 2019.
The directors from Hyundai were in attendance and spoke with deep commitment of their support for the programme.
