For a number of years. The Trust had not established a library at a secondary school. The focus was on developing reading skills at a young age. We however observed that learners attending Leshata Secondary School, which is a partner school, were producing far better results than other high schools in our portfolio. The consensus from the teachers was that many of their learners were from four of our partner schools in the area and the literacy and other skills obtained through the reading programme in the library were giving the learners the additional boost.
It was thus decided to try and establish a library at another secondary school that serves as a feeder school to some of our schools in the far south. Thuto-Tiro Comprehensive School was identified as the perfect fit, being a feeder school to Pitseng, Siviwe, and Tjhabatsatsi Primary Schools and also regarded by the community as a well-managed school.
A state-of-the-art library and resource centre with 8000 books, computers, study guides, teaching aids and the latest IT technology was opened on 31 March 2021. Once again due to Covid restrictions, the handover was only attended by 20 guests from the District and surrounding schools.
