"When I got hired for this job, I thought my job was to lend books to learners and collect them back. Boy was I wrong! We wear lots of hats as Imperial & Motus Trust librarians. We are teachers, singers, dancers, soccer and netball coaches, we are actors... the list is endless."

Junior Rantheti
2nd year Aeronautical Engineering student WITS – Ex Pupil Tshepana Primary School

"The impact that the Trust has had on my life over the past decade is immeasurable. From sparking my love for reading and assisting me in procuring a scholarship to complete my schooling and now still providing support to me at university. Thank you on my behalf and the thousands of lives the Trust has touched."

Lethabo Ramonyane
Grade 6 learner at Heerengracht Primary School

"Before the library opened at school, I really had nothing to do after finishing my homework so I would just play games on my phone and watch TV. Now that we have a library at school I borrow books and read, this has helped me to improve my English."

Mr Mathibe
Principal Elsie Ngidi Primary School

"Since the library was established, the confidence, effectiveness and dignity of teachers has been boosted. Our school is also now enjoying the status of being the school of choice in our community. Enrolment has grown from 800 to 1200 in the short time."

Esther Shuping
Final year Cum Laude BPharm. student Wits

"The libraries at Tshepana Primary and Leshata Secondary gave me the opportunity to improve my English vocabulary and thus contributed to giving me a strong foundation in my academic career. The resources found at the library helped me explore different fields from science to literature. The competitions held in the library helped build my confidence and exposed skills that I did not know I had. The library ultimately became my second home."

Dear Imperial and Motus trust
I wrote this letter to express my sincere gratitude to the Imperial and Motus trust. A journey to acquiring a tertiary qualification is a difficult one, it is academically, emotionally and financially challenging. The trust always had my back in terms of financial support, from my first year through to my final year. I am glad to inform you that I have completed my Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) qualification with a distinction and I have also signed a one year internship contract for 2022, with Adcock Ingram. Thank you for your constant support and helping me make my dream come true.
Kind regards,
Esther Shuping

"I joined the Trust in 2013 and am involved in the backroom work of setting up a library. I have learnt everything from covering books to capturing these onto the system. I started borrowing books as my curiosity began to get the better of me. I am now an avid reader. My level of confidence has increased as has my manner of communicating. Being part of such an environment has empowered me and driven me to constantly learn new things."

Ex employee - Now employed by GDE

"The library programme determined my choice of career. The programme gave me an opportunity to be a teacher. It taught me to think critically at all times. By the time I began to study to become a teacher, I had more experience to bring to my studies and I also built up enough awareness of the profession."

Mlungisi
Qalabotjha Secondary School

"I'm from the rural area. Sometimes English can be a little bit difficult to a person like me. With the help of the friendly librarian we have here at school I have developed the love of reading the books which later increased my vocabulary. He later introduced me to the book club members which helped me a lot in engaging myself into group discussions about the books we were reading.'"

Sindi Shekeshe
Project Cordinator

"To put it simply, my life has taken a 360° turn, since joining the Trust. Moving from being a library assistant to becoming the person who manages the library project from renovation to handover has been an amazing experience. I am aware that if the Trust has entrusted me with such responsibilities, they must have seen the spark in me. I am now financially independent and have an identity of my own."

Joelo, Latifah and Lihle
Qalabotjha Secondary School

"The library has been of great help in our academic and our personal lives. Coming to grade 8 was life changing, hearing different things about high school was scary. But we found a home inside the library and it helped us abstain from smoking during break but instead we joined a book club. The book club helped to improve our English, reading and writing skills. We found a welcoming librarian who introduced us to new ventures such as spelling bee, dictionary quiz and some fun games impacted our academic performance positively. When we were given assignments that needed research or internet, we didn't have to stress about data because the library gave us free access to the internet. The library has played a huge role in our lives at Qalabotjha secondary school and we are very proud to say it is our safe space."
