Establishing libraries and resources centres blends in perfectly with the Trust’s mandate of advancing literacy at impoverished South African schools. Improvements in learners’ reading levels has an undeniable impact on all other learning areas, ensuring that learners leaving school are ready for the challenges of the next phase of their lives.
The skills needed for pleasure and leisure reading or for study and research is at once honed because of the children’s early exposure to quality reading resources provided by our Trust. In contrast, where students are deprived of these resources, for instance at neighbouring schools in the same vicinity as our schools, the differences in reading scores are stark and dismal.
