Freedom Park Primary is situated in a recently formalized informal settlement. With the introduction of low-cost housing and electricity the area has now qualified for township status.

Our late President Nelson Mandela visited the school and was appalled at the conditions under which the learners were taught. He made an appeal to the business sector, and the Shanduka Foundation assisted in putting up a new school.

The Trust carried out its customary site inspection to assess the school. A typical problem soon emerged: the room originally built to house the library was used as a classroom, and though the school was new, it was in a poor condition.

It was necessary to strip the room, starting with the foundation and walls. The Imperial and Motus team worked diligently to ensure the community of Freedom Park received a library similar in quality to all other Hyundai libraries. This was achieved through their magnanimous donation and attended by their executives from South Africa and South Korea. The brand-new library and resource Centre was handed over in January 2017 as a fitting back-to-school gift to start the new academic year.
