Itsebeng Primary School was so keen on receiving a library for their learners, that they moved the grade R learners into a mobile classroom, thereby availing a room big enough to establish a library centre to accommodate 9000 books, teaching aids, private reading spaces, and all the usual equipment and resources to make learning fun and interesting.
The school was able to celebrate National Literacy Month with the opening of their new resource centre in September 2018. They also hosted a number of effective literacy events the month. Storytelling, movie days and ‘drop everything and read’ was easily eased into the curriculum because of the interest from the staff and the availability of resources.
