Palmridge Primary School
Address: Corner Tritonia Road and Celtis Street PALMRIDGE
Partnership Date: February 2021
School Roll 2021: 1820

Palmridge Primary School (which was a part of Palmridge Combined School) was established in 1986 to cater for the Indian community living in the area.  By 2019 the school was bursting at the seams forcing the education department to move the primary section to a different campus.

The primary school was officially opened in August 2019. The school is not a brick-and-mortar structure, but a so-called "alternative construction technology" school. It is a well-managed, and caters to about 2000 learners with the assistance of 65 staff members.

Fortunately for the Trust, the school had a facility to set up a library and resource centre and Hyundai South Africa (a keen sponsor of our library programme), was looking for a library project to sponsor on the East Rand; they accepted our proposal with alacrity. Some structural changes were necessary that included building brick retaining walls, constructing private reading rooms, paving and tiling, shelving and furniture, and loads of TLC which all culminated into a beautiful library and resource centre.

Due to the January 2021 COVID-19 level three restrictions, no official handover of this library had been planned for, but the school had been given the keys so learners returning to school on 15 February 2021, would have something to smile about and love.
